Ludger Can Never Just Say "No"

Post by Axton on Sat May 14, 2016 8:10 pm

Ludger loves cooking more than he loves most things. Cooking calms him down and makes him feel at peace. At least, it normally does, but for whatever reason whenever Jude is around things like composure and peace of mind go right out the window. This is particularly upsetting because Jude is the one who desperately wants Ludger to teach him how to cook but it feels impossible with how flustered being around Jude makes him.

Somehow, Ludger had just agreed to teaching Jude how to cook and now he was standing there letting Jude wear his two sizes too large apron and trying desperately to smile and not turn bright red.

Jude loves how he feels around Ludger. Like the whole world is on his side, like he could climb a mountain and not feel winded for even a little bit--it's fantastic. So, he thinks to himself as he pumps a fist, excited, it's only natural he wants to be around him as much as possible. Cooking lessons provide a great excuse, considering he could definitely use them anyways. He's never been anything about average in cooking, and it would be helpful to know more, he decides.

It also doesn't help stop his scheme that one time, when he'd been staying over at Leia's, Sonia had commented that Jude looked better in an apron than Leia did, adding, solemnly, her fears he'd be married to a good man earlier than her. Jude looked pretty damn cute in that huge apron.

Ludger bit his lip and tried not to think about how absolutely cute Jude was in that apron. His apron, nonetheless.

He ties it in the back for Jude and is all too careful to not touch him otherwise.

"...what do you want to make?" He asked quietly, barely above a mumble.

He rolls up his sleeves, crossing his arms over his chest in thought. Something that took a while to cook. Something sweet, possibly. He had to milk this for all it was worth. Jude was definitely done with wondering if Ludger felt even a little bit the same--now was better than any other time. He just sort of hoped it would work. There wasn't really... a back-up plan. So he just kind of hoped for the best.

"Hm... Maybe a simple cake?" He offers, smile unfading.

"Oh, I'm..." Ludger starts to say he's not good at baking but he really doesn't want to screw this up so he bites his tongue and says, "...chocolate or vanilla?"

Jude sees the hesitance in his face even if it's only for a moment. "No desserts, then?" He looks upwards to meet his eyes, lifting an eyebrow. "...Why don't you pick for me? I'm not experienced in a lot of things, so I'd be happy to learn anything you could tell me."

For a split moment Ludger had forgotten how perceptive Jude was, and how he could read him like a book. It makes his cheeks redden, more so when he hears Jude mention his lack of experience in a lot of things.

"Why not something simple," Ludger muses, almost to himself. He looks through his cabinets and rounds up some ingredients. "Does fried rice sound good?"

Jude nods firmly then, though he kind of wonders why Ludger got so red just now... "Fried rice sounds great!" He decides, stepping closer to peer at the ingredients. "Ooh. I love eggs in fried rice, actually." He adds, excited.

Ludger smiles, proud of himself for choosing something Jude likes.

"Okay. I'll walk you through the steps. Do you know what to do first?" He asks, and his hands are itching to just start it himself so he folds them behind his back.

"Well. Wouldn't it be smart to start the chicken first? Then the rice, then the veggies, then the egg...?" He purses his lips in thought. He had a rudimentary idea of what cooked faster from hounding Leia's dad for food all the time... but all the same, her furrows his brow.

"No, start the rice first," Ludger instructs and he has to remind himself he's not the one cooking so he can't so it himself. "But everything else is right."

"Okay! Sorry about that." He rubs his neck and offers a little smile. "So, oil..." He starts, setting up the pan and turning the heat on.

Ludger reaches around him and turns the heat down a little bit.

"It was too hot," he says quietly.

"S-Sorry." He sighs. Well, it was going to be either his plan or Alvin's plan that works, and so far he's got a feeling it was going to be Alvin's with the way things were headed. He lets the pan heat up, spreading the oil around and looks to Ludger for instruction, not completely sure.

"You're doing good," he says encouragingly. "I'll tell you if you're doing something wrong. But don't worry, I made a lot of mistakes when I first started, too."

"Thank you, Ludger." He says, practically beaming. He can feel his face get warm. "So get the rice in, then water? Or..." He sighs, a little worried.

"Boil your water first." He instructs and he reaches past him to grab a pot but stops himself and pulls away. "Sorry. Habit. You're doing great."

He sighs, and nods. He moves to where Ludger had motioned to, and pulls out a pot. He fills it with water and sets it aside onto another burner, turning it on as well. "I uh, guess I got ahead of myself, I'm sorry."

"It's okay. That's why you asked for me help, right?" Ludger smiles at him. He's never seen Jude so flustered before and it's both cute and a bit worrying.

Jude can't help but blush. He catches his eyes and nods again. "You got it." He laughs, tilting his head to the side. "Ah, next thing to do?"

"Chicken next." He instructs. "It's fried rice so you don't have to season the chicken if you don't want to," he begins to ramble on and on about the right way to season a chicken and on and on until he realizes how long he's been talking and immediately shuts up. It's probably the longest Ludger has ever talked in his life. "...anyway, just, uh, heat the pan."

Jude doesn't say anything, he simply lets Ludger talk, and when he ends the thought he smiles again. "Got it." He does so, and sets the pan over it and keeps an eye on it. "You know, it's fun hearing you talk about cooking." He says, without turning around.

"Oh, right, cut up the chicken next," he says, pointing out the proper knife and the cutting board. "You want even, square, bite sized pieces so that they all cook evenly."
