Sorrel and Sage de Fleuriau

Post by sirenangel on Tue Jan 10, 2017 10:21 pm

In all honesty, the circumstances of his life have given no indication that he, Sage de Fleuriau, youngest son of the Royal Duke Gerard de Fleuriau, brother to the King, was a worthy candidate of ransoming by a dragon. Behind what his title hid he was not nearly so worth having. He was not suited for the throne, he was temperamental and petty to other people for no particular reason, he would not study and would simply vanish from the mansion to ride his mare without telling a soul. And no less even behind closed doors he was easily angered and even easier brought to tears.

So he doubts anyone would want him back anyways, this wretch he's grown into squirming in the hold of a giant dragon. He supposes idly it must be his looks that bring this particular dragon back; this is probably the fifth time, and he's not wholly sure anyone cares to come get him this time. Not that they truly did the last four, anyhow. Then it was simply a formality.

"Let me go!" He shouts, digging his nails into the scaled flesh of the behemoth. "You cannot keep doing this! They didn't even offer a ransom the last two times!" His voice cracks. "Can you even understand me?!"

The dragon looked down at him, large green eyes peering straight into Sage's. It wasn't about the gold, although he did like the way it felt clinking against his scales, not one bit. It had never been about the gold from the start. Sorrel just missed the company of his dear, but very alive brother. At least he was alive.

Sorrel released his tight grip around his brother, gently placing him on a bed of stolen fur and shed hair from his own mane. It was the nicest he could do with his circumstances, and it was probably gross to his brother, but it was more comfortable than his pile of coins.

He curled up, placing his head right up against where he had placed his brother, exhaling loudly. His face looked stupidly happy all things considered. He missed his brother, even if he was quite feisty in comparison to how he had known him before. It was kind of cute.

Sage sneers at the beast. It probably thought itself kind for being so uncharacteristically gentle for its species, but the bed of hair only makes the teen turn his nose up in spite.

His eyes were beautiful, and as beasts went he was a rather beautiful one, his mane draped over his scales. A color not unlike his own tied hair, but not groomed as nicely as his own, let alone as nicely as his mare, who he hopes has hurried home by now. With disgust clear on his face he shifts, trying and failing to make himself feel better about the situation. Instead, he feels the tears start to well up and he forces himself to will them away with a huff.

"I don't know what you're after. Why don't you take my cousin instead? She'll certainly fetch a bounty you wouldn't sneeze at. I've no such worth." He remarks, crossing his arms over his chest, nails digging crescents into his skin even through the light shirt.

Sorrel snorts without meaning to; he has no interest in anyone else, let alone her. He knows it's bad to respond, to show that he's aware and can speak with him, in a way.

With his massive clawed hands, he reaches out and touches his pretty hair, doing his very best to be gentle. He's got beautiful hair, really. Just like he remembers. He misses his own hair, and he grooms himself as best he can but no matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to get his worthless hands to braid his hair like he would prefer.

Sage flinches at the beast's touch and skitters backwards only to find a wall, his light brows knitted in frustration. It doesn't hurt, but what if his claw slipped? The idea sets his heart racing in terror. If he died here, he'd never see Sor ever again. His lips quivers without him meaning to let it and he turns his cheek.

"Whatever it is you want, just take it." He concedes, his anger fizzling out a little bit in his fear. "...the only person who would come for me can't, anymore. So just..." It's getting harder and harder not to cry, but with a deep breath he steadies himself.

Sorrel pulls his hand back, knowing it's better this way. It still makes him noticeably sad, though. He's right; the only person who would have dropped everything to slay even a beast such as himself was gone. He was the beast himself, now.

Sorrel nuzzles his nose against him in what he hopes is an encouraging way. A sorry of sorts.

The nuzzle surprises him enough that he jolts, taking in another harsh breath. This time it doesn't work, and it's because now all he can think of is Sorrel and how much he misses him and the tears drip down his face. He curls into himself and tries to keep himself quiet, rubbing at his eyes, even though it's all he wants to do now, to just sob and feel sorry for himself.

"...please, let me go home." He mutters, sniffling in a feeble attempt to pretend he hadn't just cried. His voice hasn't sounded so small in years.

Sorrel sighs, a sad, resigned sigh and nuzzles him gently once more.

Soon, he thought. Just let him have this for a bit longer. Then he would let him go, as he always did. Unfortunately, he also had no intention of quitting this cycle of theirs, either. When he could stave off the loneliness no longer, he would fetch him once more, for a few nights of less loneliness.

"Please... I don't understand, you can't just not understand me, I know you can! Please, just take me home!" He begs, resting a hand on the dragon's mane, trying very hard to reach him.

It isn't as if he wants to be at the castle, really. It's more like he worries his brother will return without him knowing. As unlikely as it is, the thought of him being gone when Sorrel returned makes his stomach feel sour. All he thought about was Sorrel, after all, even this long since his vanishing.

He stares at him, pained, but unwilling to comply. He simply pushed against him with his nose again. Maybe he would only keep him for a night this time. Just one night was all he needed.

He musters his willpower and meets the dragons's eyes, hands at the sides of his face. Firm, but not cruel.

"I want. To go. Home." He says, brow tight, eyes still red from tears. "Please." The beast's eyes really are beautiful. Too intelligent not to know what he's saying, he thinks. No, he is sure of it.

He sighs, a deep sigh, and then stands, paces around his layer, toys with a few mountains of coins, and then turns back to Sage, looking at him in contemplation. Should he just cave? It would prove he's sentient, and that he most certainly doesn't want. But it pains him so to see his brother like this. He sighs and lays down with his head by Sage again, pleading with his eyes for him to understand his loneliness.

Sage groans at the beast and falls flat into the bed of fur, even if inside he feels disgusting doing so. it's very soft, at the least, but he still can't help the uncomfortable feeling of it.

He misses Sorrel. He curls into a ball, giving up, squeezing his eyes shut. It's all he can think about anymore anyways. Nothing matters without him. He wraps his arms around himself, resigning himself to another week of staying here with something that clearly understands him but won't do a thing about it. He mutters Sorrel's name, weakly.

He recoils from hearing his name like this. It hurts, and he knows it's his fault, but...hearing his name makes him feel all that more worse. It's been so long since he disappeared and yet he's still thinking about him. That, too, hurts.

Sorrel just nuzzles up against him and closes his eyes, hoping for at least one night's sleep next to his brother.

The dragon is warm, at the very least, and that much is comforting, but the truth of his situation is still much colder and weighs on him all the same.

He sleeps fitfully as he does every night, and like every night he dreams of his brother. When he wakes he finds himself clinging to the beast, which he pushes himself away from with a huff. Sorrel used to be the person he'd go to when he'd had a nightmare, and in his sleep he supposed he thought the thing was him.

Sorrel winces as he gets pushed. He opens an eye, still tired. It's light out, though, so he yawns, showing off his large teeth without meaning to.

He stretches and looks outside. He guess he should take his brother home now. He huffed, looking indignant about it.

He knows it's simply a yawn but it is still enough to make him shiver. Sage leans against the wall as he rises, sighing in a very resigned way. This was his life for the next week, he supposed. His eyes still hurt from crying last night, too. So he simply pouts at the dragon, arms crossed over his chest.

Sorrel gently picks up his brother and climbs from the top of his tower out the open roof. He has made this journey many a time, releasing his brother in a nearby forest and bidding him farewell, until he plucks him from the same place once more.

After a short flight he sets Sage down in almost the same clearing he picked him up from. He nuzzles him with his nose, saying goodbye, but only for now.

Soon this would have to end; it wasn't fair to his brother.

As they fly, he clings for dear life, but he does smile a little bit. It definitely understood him, that much he knew. But it still wouldn't explain anything, even if it did bring him back after a day. It perplexes him to no end.

"You... have to stop doing this." He says after they land, his voice still wavering from the ride; heights made him incredibly nervous in the first place. "...It could get you killed, you know. N-Not that I care. But you still need to stop."

Sorrel looks down at him, frowning slightly but unresponsive otherwise. He would, he thought to himself, he would stop...but just one more time after this. One more time.

He nudged him with his nose, telling to go back home.

Sage sighs once more. He shakes his head solemnly and turns to walk away.

"I know you understand me. You can quit pretending you're not able to, but I know dragons are more intelligent than humans are." He remarks, tossing his braid flippantly as he walks away.

Sorrel had found it; his saving grace. A way to communicate to with his brother. At first, he had thought he couldn't possibly do it. He couldn't reveal himself. But as the days wore on, the incessant loneliness drove him to kidnap his brother (again). Now he had to just convince him to form a blood pact. No problem, right?

Sorrel looked down at his brother, trying to figure out how to get this to happen.

Again he stands below the dragon so persistent on taking him. Sage crosses his arms once more, defiantly staring up to him.

"I don't know what you expect of me, beast." He sighs out, staring into his eyes. They truly were familiar looking, even if he couldn't tell why. "This should have stopped a month ago."

Sorrel nudged at him impatiently, but it was his fault that he couldn't communicate properly. How to instruct him to just gently cut himself, just a little, so he could put some of his blood in there...He huffed, irritated at himself and paced around the room.

"What are you even doing?!" He almost spits, completely frustrated. Though, something about the lair has indeed changed, a table set up almost neatly, too neatly for the hands of a clumsy beast. He frowns once more at the sight, but approaches it. An amulet lays there, opened like a locket. It certainly looks ancient, but he knows he's seen it's make before.

"...What is this?"
